Gamers at Heart
Posted by Kate Ashley - Executive Director, Marketing & Retail Channel

We love the thrill of the game—it's why we do what we do. We're a company for gamers, by gamers. With offices full of gamers and geeks, talk always gets back to gaming. Who's playing what, how much @ss they're kicking, what new tricks were discovered. This is our passion and it's something that separates us from our competitors. We maintain and grow our gaming roots.

So what does this company of gamers for gamers play? Here's a break down of who's playing what.

Customer Care
This is a tight-knit team. They're completely hooked on WoW. Sure there's some Oblivion and CounterStrike, but WoW is the poison of choice. These folks are so hard core they even host gaming nights and LAN parties for each other.

Product Development
A motley crew if ever there was one. All techies, all gamers. But the one uniting factor - Battlefield 2142. They're hardcore and meet up online after hours to battle.

Supply Chain
They're constantly buying and negotiating, so it's little wonder that these folks favor online card games (playing for money is optional). Texas Hold'em has kept them coming back for years now.

CEO
Randy's hooked on Need For Speed Carbon. He's been playing hard lately to keep his 10 year old kid from beating him so badly. As in real life, the boss favors BMWs.

Soon to be released obsessions: Crysis and Spore.

Drop me a line to let me know what your favorite games are. I've got game bundles for the first 5 comments here. (leave your email address so I can get in touch with you)

Favorite games? What a tough question! Like your Customer Care folks, I used to be hooked on World of Warcraft. But in a move that surprised even me, Everquest II now dominates my free time. Try it out; you might be pleasantly surprised.

Oh, let's not forget Battlefield 2. While it's newer sibling is all the rage at the moment, Battlefield 2 still draws about 2 (or more) hours every night. Nothing like fragging the tangoes from my secret hiding spot in Karkand!

Thanks for keeping gaming at the core of what you do. I am a recent convert from Alienware and I am totally happy with having switched to Velocity Micro! Keep up the great work!

My wife and I play EQ2 together on our Velocity Micro we ordered in late August 2006 after the Intel Core 2 Duos came out. Incidently our Dell died today so we may call you as early as tonight about a replacement. My brother Dave also plays on his Campus Edition which we recommended to him (and got the Best Buy gift card from you all)!

Best game overall is Half-Life 2. Liked Farcry a lot also. Not a muliplayer on-line gamer because younger players just kill me everytime. Looking forward to DirectX 10 and some of the new games coming out like Crysis. Still using AGP graphics, and waitng for ATI's answer to Nvidia's 8800 GTX. When I get a new machine, it definitely will be a Velocity Micro. Greating gaming to all. Paul at pgkdekodo8@aol.com

I have gone "cold turkey" and given up WoW after nearly 2 years of playing it exclusively. Supreme Commander looks quite good, but it may choke my machine. My pc gaming origin is in first person shooters so I am anxiously awaiting Crysis, Stalker, Episode 2 of Half-Life 2, and the return of Team Fortress.

I play a lot of different types of games, but my favorites are always strategy games. A good strategy game is easy to learn (at least the basics), but contains a lot of depth or hidden complexity. Lately I've been playing Heroes of Might & Magic V. Very easy to learn, but the combinations of different creatures, abilities, spells, etc. result in a lot of depth to the game. Other games I've been playing lately include Civilization IV, Age of Wonders, Rome: Total War, and Galactic Civilizations II. Of course, if you've had a long day at work and you're brain-dead, then fire up F.E.A.R. or Doom 3 and kill everything that moves! Terry Skaggs -- tsgraph@cableone.net

Right now I'm hooked on the following.

1. Halo 2- what is more fun then blowing your friends to smithereens. Then having your friend melle you in the back of the head as revenge.

2. Fable - the funnest rpg I have ever played. Running around with a weapon being good or evil and being encouraged to kick chickens is the best.

3. burnout revenge- crashing cars is always more fun when there not yours. It also helps that you don't get whiplash.

Games that need to be out right now!

Halo 3- come one bungie I now its almost done, I having halo campaign with drawl.

Fable 2 - come on lion head I don't want anymore concept shots I want substance I want to roam the landscape kicking chickens. Also being king this time would be pretty sweet.

Sorry Chris no goodies for you. lol

From Bill Huebner, Email: OCSTONECOLD@gmail.com

My favorite Single-Player game is BY FAR F.E.A.R. and F.E.A.R. Extraction point.

Multiplayer would have to go to Battlefield 2142, I haven't stopped playing it since it came out.

Now the last game on my list with the highest honor, which I do NOT own, but have borrowed it from a friend has to go to Company of Heros. It's physics system can't be beat by any other RTS out there, hands down. That also goes for it's superb gameplay.

The 2 games I'm most looking forward to are Crysis (Obvious) and the game with one of the longest development cycles in the hostory of the gaming industry: S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Anyway, I already have Crysis reserved, but I'm planning to buy and play Crysis on a Velocity Raptor within the next year. I already have the money for a Raptor, I'm just waiting for Vista to get settled.

Your Future Customer,
Bill Huebner

Sorry, Chris.

The contest isn't open to employees. Besides - how do you find time to game? I thought you worked here 23.75 hours a day. ;)

For the record, I have beaten my son in NFS on several occasions. I usually send him to bed immediately after to keep him from exacting any revenge. It's too bad that sometimes it's in the morning! I'm also hesitant to race my 9 year old, since she is so much like me, only quicker with the nitrous oxide.
